The Development of Dance Talent in Young People

November 30, 2011

The Development of Dance Talent in Young People was a three-year Interdisciplinary Longitudinal Research Project in collaboration with the national dance Centres for Advanced Training (CATs). The project sought to better understand the physical and psychological aspects of talent development using scientific methods. It was the biggest research project of its kind and nearly 800 young people took part around the country. The project measured a wide range of characteristics related to dance talent (physiology, anthropometry, psychology, injury, adherence, creativity) and explored the factors that may contribute toward optimal talent development. Interview-based research was used to complement the quantitative data and find out about talent development from the students' own words.

You can download the full research report here: http://www.trinitylaban.ac.uk/dance-science/dance-science-research/the-cat-research-project/cat-project-resources.aspx
There are also lots of other resources on that page, and watch this space for student information sheets offering practical advice about many of the topics that were investigated.

Thank you for all the help, support, encouragement and inspiration you have given our daughter since she has been a member of CAT. We have seen her develop both as a dancer and as a person and we know that the excellent teaching she has received from the CAT will hold her in good stead for what ever happens to her in the future.
