Tim Dutson

Tim’s raw talent for dance was spotted in 2007 when the Northern Ballet conducted an Introduction to Ballet workshop at his primary school in Leeds. Tim had never taken any dance training prior to this workshop and had no previous experience of ballet. Following the workshop Tim was talent spotted and offered a place on the Academy of Northern Ballet’s Centre for Advanced Training in classical ballet.

During his six years of training with CAT Tim attended weekly classes in classical ballet technique, contemporary and enhancement sessions. A highlight of Tim’s time on CAT was when he was selected for a unique opportunity to perform with the company in Northern Ballet’s A Simple Man and The Nutcracker.

In 2013 Tim graduated from the CAT programme and was accepted into English National Ballet School where we completed three years of training. Throughout his vocational training Tim was given the opportunity to dance professionally with English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Tim also danced the lead role in Swan Lake for the My First Ballet series, a unique collaboration between English National Ballet and English National Ballet School.

In 2016 Tim was offered a contract with Birmingham Royal Ballet and he is now enjoying his first year of many as a professional dancer: ‘Without the Academy of Northern Ballet visiting my primary school I wouldn’t have even tried ballet let alone become a professional ballet dancer. The academy gave me a strong classical base which has been essential to my success.’ – Tim Dutson 2016.
